Silicon rod manufacturing process

1. Raw material refining: The first step in manufacturing silicon rods is to convert natural quartz sand into high-purity polycrystalline silicon. This process usually converts quartz sand into smelted silicon at high temperature by reacting it with a reducing agent, and then improves the purity through metallurgical purification methods.

2. Silicon single crystal growth: The most commonly used method for growing silicon single crystals is the Czochralski process. In this process, the purified polycrystalline silicon is melted, a fine single crystal silicon seed rod is inserted into the molten silicon, and then slowly rotated and pulled up under precisely controlled temperature conditions, so that the molten silicon crystal grows along the seed rod to form a single crystal silicon rod.

3. Controlled doping: During the growth of silicon single crystals, specific dopants (such as phosphorus or boron) can be added to adjust the conductivity of the silicon rod. The doping process needs to be precisely controlled to ensure that the conductive properties of the silicon rod meet the requirements of electronic devices.

4. Cutting and polishing: The grown silicon rods will then be cut into wafers of the required size and then polished to ensure that the surface is flat and smooth to meet the requirements of subsequent semiconductor manufacturing processes.

5. Quality inspection: Finally, each silicon rod will undergo strict quality control tests, including crystal structure, purity, doping uniformity and other indicators to ensure that each silicon rod meets the high standards of semiconductor manufacturing.
